EVIDENCE OF LOVE
(aka A KILLING IN A SMALL TOWN). 1990

Director: Stephen Gyllenhaal

I can't rate this film highly, but I've always been just ever so slightly a Barbara Hershey fan, & there aren't many chances to see her in a starring vehicle. She stars in this telefilm as the prime suspect of an axe murder, in a "based on a true story" study of an explosive crime in small town America.

Hershey creates a character who seems to be walking about in a coma, as someone very depressed might indeed do; but the rest of the cast seems drugged into submission too, so her character doesn't stand out all that much.

When a flashback finally shows the brutal slaying it's pretty intense & well played. But the characters are in general so unlikeable, that they could've all been killed by axes & this viewer wouldn't've cared.
