The Job

THE JOB. 2003

Director: Kenny Golde

It appears that many viewers (I would guess boys mainly) were extremely dissapointed that Daryl Hannah is not palying a sexpot. She is butch, vulnerable, depressed, immoral, psychologically so damaged that she approaches insanity, & seemingly trying to scrabble her way back to the light from the depths of her life-long sociopathic job & behavior.

The performance is awesome. The script is another matter. It has great moments, flashes of black humor, is truly noirish & disturbing in its refusal to pretend there is any place for morality in a hitwoman's world. But the script is uneven & at times unconvincing unless the viewer fills in the gaps. I would rate the film highly only for Daryl's groundbreakingly gritty performance, devoid of vanity.
