Pyrokinesis aka Cross Fire is the Japanese version of Stephen King's Firestarter, more the film than the novel, starring Akiko Yada as the girl who can start fires with her mind.

Though based on a pair of novels by Japanese woman, in an interview amidst the DVD extras she (novelist Miyuki Miyabe) is very candid that she was writing her own version of Firestarter. The director is just as candid; he wants to one-up the American film, & it strives for big fire-effects start to finish.

There's enough originality that it doesn't just seem like a plagiarism. It approaches being an excellent horror film, about a girl sometimes driven to evil acts but not herself evil. Add this one to films like The Eye & Ringu which bring enough that is new & "Asian" to old themes to be in the main worthwhile.
