Suicide Club

SUICIDE CLUB
(JISATSU CIRCLE) 2002

Director: Shion Sono

The opening sequence shows fifty-four schoolgirls in their school uniforms take hold of one another's hands & leap gleefully upon train tracks in a mass suicide. This really grabbed my attention; it seemed at once a gross, daring, & funny way to start a film.

But the bulk of the film is framed like a detective story, but all the detectiving adds up to nothing. We're given a sort of a mystery with hints of the supernatural but it all just fizzles out & the whole story is merely a bunch of loose threads going nowhere.
